Obviously for those businesses not in the construction game, the question posed in the title of my post is a metaphor. Those in the construction industry might be able to relate to the question a little more directly.
We came across this amazing video today. It depicts a 57 storey building being built in 19 days.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veNf-bz99cI
Now, we are sure, that nothing is quite as simple as that. This building did get stopped at level 20 for 12 months due to planning issues because of its proximity to the airport. However, the fundamental approach of 3 storey per day is still completely astounding.
Imagine having a skyscraper built and ready for habitation within three weeks! Now imagine if the scale of the project was reduced to residential homes. Imagine if a home emerged within 3 days!
What processes/ products/ services could you completely innovate in your business to create the same type of efficiency gains?
In this world of instant gratification, moving to the most efficient methods possible will create enormous competitive advantages. It's time to embrace those methods and make your business stand out from the pack.
Before we saw this video, we would have said building a 57 storey building in three MONTHS was impossible. Let alone three WEEKS.
It’s time to let go of what is IMPOSSIBLE. Notions of what can or can’t be achieved are limitations that are no longer relevant.
Instead start with this:
What could be done (assuming no limitations on money or resources) to build YOUR 57 storey building in 19 days (change your processes to be the most efficient you can be)?
Write EVERY idea you, your team, your customers have down. This is then the idea hub for every project that your business should attend to going forward. Of course some will be too expensive or require too many resources. But many will be able to be done now. And those ideas will help build your profit margins/ resourcing to get to the others later.
The moral of the story - NOTHING is impossible.
