Solopreneurs now present a more profitable opportunity for bookkeepers

With sole traders' tight margins preventing bookkeepers from adding value, the new ABN partnership with Sole accounting software opens the door to bigger opportunities.

The Australian Bookkeepers Network (ABN) has launched a partnership with up-and-coming Australian accounting software Sole to pave the way for a deeper service offering to sole traders and freelancers.

The partnership supports the recent release of Sole’s bookkeeper and accountant referral program with commissions and discounts for onboarding solopreneurs. With over 70 people in the last 40 days now having signed up, Sole Founder, Johann Oberhoizer, says the enthusiasm reflects a turning point for a market in need of a more tailored service.

Sweet spot for sole traders with Australian tech

“With over 15,000 app downloads since we took Sole to market in 2021, we know we’ve found that sweet spot that eliminates the complexity for sole traders with more streamlined features,” said Johann. “Sole’s simple, transparent, and fair pricing is Australia's most affordable accounting software, including being the only ones offering a free forever tier.

“The natural next step for us was to acknowledge the critical role bookkeepers and accountants play in also supporting sole traders and freelancers,” continued Johann. “Many bookkeepers are tired of clients stuck on spreadsheets or complaining about bookkeeping costs. This prevents bookkeepers from adding profitable value and increasing billable work.”

Referral program to harness opportunity with solopreneurs

“I’m pleased that through our referral program we can work with bookkeepers to iron out any issues they’re having with sole traders and small business clients and enable a more collaborative way of working.”

“It’s been important to me that all bookkeepers have a voice with Sole,” continued Johann. “We have implemented nearly 20 enhancements to Sole based on our client’s feedback and we continue to work with them to mold Sole to make their lives easier.”

Features that have just what is needed

Sole offers all the essential features for businesses of 1-4 people to help them get paid quicker, connect to their bank account, and do their tax easily.

The three main functions needed to run a sole trader business are all there with invoicing, quoting and expense management features. Clever additions include a tax estimator to see real time tax liability, as well as an in-built reporting suite including a BAS report and P&L.

Quick transition to use Sole makes decision to switch easy

Sole also assures an easy transition from competitor accounting software with account setup taking just 10 minutes, with no training needed to use Sole, just a 10 minute bootcamp introduction.

Sole only works with Australian businesses, and has all Australian on-shore support. There’s the added benefit of offers from Sole partners serving the sole trader market, including free business coaching and more.

ABN support niche opportunity for bookkeepers

ABN Director, Peter Thorpe, says that this is another example of the Australian accounting tech industry leading the way.

“We’re pleased to partner with an Australian innovation that is serving a major market important to our bookkeeping industry,” said Peter. “Due to prohibitive costs and complex technology, it has been difficult to lift the sole trader market out of outdated practices of Excel spreadsheets and clumsy record keeping.

“I can see that Sole is a great option to focus small business clients on the more valuable business advisory services bookkeepers can offer for longer and more satisfying client relationships.”
